The Challenge
Falling behind on property taxes can put a family's home at risk, even when they are doing everything they can to catch up. Too often the process is built around displacement rather than helping homeowners recover and stay.
Michael's Approach
Michael will work to transform the way Wayne County treats homeowners facing delinquent property taxes — shifting the focus from displacement to keeping families in their homes.
The campaign proposes a fair repayment process designed around homeowner success: when the County pays a delinquent tax obligation, the campaign proposes exploring a five-year, penalty-free repayment approach so families have a realistic path to stay.
The Evans administration will seek solutions that help residents remain in their homes while ensuring the County can responsibly recover what it is owed.
