Priority 03
Vacant Property & Neighborhood Revitalization
Turn blight into opportunity by working with local investors to redevelop property, create jobs, and build community wealth.
The Challenge
Vacant lots and abandoned buildings drag down neighborhoods, depress property values, and rob communities of the jobs and investment they should be generating. Left unaddressed, blight spreads — and the wealth that redevelopment could create leaves the community.
Michael's Approach
Michael will work to eliminate blight using sound business practices — treating vacant commercial land and residential property as opportunities to rebuild, not problems to ignore.
The Evans administration will seek partnerships with local investors to redevelop properties while prioritizing local ownership and participation.
The campaign proposes redevelopment that puts residents to work, strengthening the local workforce and creating pathways to good jobs.
Michael will prioritize approaches that build community wealth and socioeconomic mobility, so revitalization benefits the people who already live there.
